Are architects turning their backs on glass skyscrapers?

Glass towers can be found all around the globe, representing progress in the 20th century. However there has been some opposition by architects and urban planners including questions of sustainability.

These buildings retain heat in warmer weather but lose heat when it's cold. It has been argued that we should be focusing on saving resources and being energy-efficient. Furthermore, glass towers have been perceived to make our cities appear cold and unwelcoming.

Rather, a more sustainable approach using a mix of glass and metal or granite has been suggested.
