If you love coffee and also love design, then these coffee shops are for you.
Here are the some of the world’s best coffee shops that take “taste” to a different level.
Dolcezza at the Hirshhorn
Washington DC, USA
Dolcezza is the Hirshhorn Museum’s first permanent food and beverage spot. Re-imagined by Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto and architectural firm New Material Research Laboratory, the brushed brass coffee bar features tin diamond patterns inspired by fireproofing techniques used in 1930s Tokyo.
Twin glass-top tables, crafted from the roots of a 700-year-old Japanese nutmeg tree, adorn the lobby of the revamped Hirshhorn. Brushed brass and granite welcome desks could be found elsewhere in the lobby, as a reflection of the building’s twin entryways. The light, open space as designed by Sugimoto, acts as an artful entrance to one of Washington’s most reflective venues for contemporary art.
Blue Bottle Coffee
Tokyo, Japan
Blue Bottle Coffee in Japan creates the perfect synergy between urban efficiency and rural serenity. It is located on a back street, away from a busy avenue. It is adjacent to a sunken plaza filled with lush greenery, offering respite loud city.
Schemata, the Japanese architects who undertook the design, refrained from using any elements that might disrupt the natural surroundings. They instead opted for basswood plywood as the main material which resulted in a woody warmth for the interior. The walls are adorned with geometric lines - which seems to be a tasteful nod to office ergonomics.
Tierra Garat
Mexico City, Mexico
Tierra Garat was opened by Mexican gourmet coffee brand Café Garat and brings quality coffee to the hip neighborhood Colonia Roma.
It is designed as a collaboration between Héctor Esrawe's studio and Cadena y Asociados into a space that is, and feels, authentically Mexican down to its roots. The warm texture of the interior reflects the smooth chocolate and coffee offered. It aims to center the patron experience on the “untold story of Mexican coffee.”
