Obese city: why we must design walkability back into Sydney

Is Sydney causing us to walk less and favouring driving over walking?

With diabetes 2 and obesity becoming an issue, perhaps there is a need for government planning, transport design and economics to reshape the city and how we travel within it.

Particularly if work doesn't make us fit, our city could help us bridge the gap. At the moment we have suburbs and homes that are far away from work, school and public transport.

So what could a healthy city look like? Perhaps a changed focus from private to public transport to encourage activity, choosing streets rather than roads, constructing footpaths and cycleways and improving general accessibility to increase mobility.
