It's official. Work is now being done for the second stage of the Sydney Opera House as part of its $273 million renewal plan.
Upgrades are in response to an increasing amount of visitors and Patterson Building Group will be the builder.
The project will include a 270sqm kitchen as well as a 500sqm function space holding 190 seated individuals and 500 standing.
The current events marquee will be permanently removed to open up the space as well as providing a clearer outlook to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
"The Function Centre upgrade both respects the heritage of this much-loved Sydney icon and gives more of the Opera House to the community," stated NSW minister for the Arts Don Harwin.
