Sydney train strike: work from home?

The New South Wales government is hoping to stop the train strike on Monday which will last for 24 hours. Commuters are already beginning to experience disruption due to fewer services.

Thursday and Australia Day will see services reduced by almost half, with trains running on a Saturday schedule.

It has been advised for commuters to avoid travelling in peak hour if possible and even work from home.

There will be no trains on Monday across NSW and all stations will be closed if the strike continues.

The Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) ran a poll for members via text message to determine whether they were willing to accept the most recent pay package from management. This included a 2.75% pay increase including free bus rides and a one-off $1,000 payment. With over 6,100 messages sent, only 5.93% of workers voted yes.
