Yahoo7’s new 5-star sustainable workplace designed by Gensler

Yahoo7, a premium media and publishing company, has achieved a 5-star rating under Green Star - Interiors v1.1.  The company engaged Gensler in 2017 for the interior design of its new 2,000 square metre workplace at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney.

Gensler was also the Green Star coordinator responsible for the certification process, having been a member of the Green Building Council of Australia since 2014.

The design team formulated a workplace strategy that aimed to create a more open work environment that would be conducive to sharing of space, tools and ideas. The new space needed to enable a more efficient usage and allow the company’s workplace to transform from a dispersed and isolated culture to a more agile and collaborative one.

The initial client brief stated that the project had to achieve a 4-star Green Star certification but the team went beyond and achieved a 5-star Green Star Interiors certification. Yahoo7 is the first project in New South Wales to achieve the certification equivalent to ‘Australian Excellence’ under Green Star.
