Greatest downfall of hot desking

Hot desking seems to be failing gloriously as the deadly silence in modern office is still growing. Adding to that, noise-cancelling headphones seems to be the go-to accessory that causes people to tune out.

Back in the days, journalists are known to smash keyboards and wreck phones after lunch. Now, we are no longer anchored to our desks. People who are agitated had mobiles in “breakout” rooms and stories are just written in the office couch or canteen as from a workstations.

Communications are no longer done on the phone but via email or text message. All these factors lower ambient noise around the office, while fewer long lunches means fewer people snoring come 5pm.

It’s safe to say that hot desking has been a complete failure. Cubicle free workplace that aims to force employees to collaborate and talk more face-to-face is nonsense. Hot desking has entrenched grouping of those working in the same area or of similar ages.
