The last concrete pour to lay the track slab last December was a significant milestone for the Light Rail construction, completing the alignment’s 24,735 metres of track slab. Barriers were significantly reduced around the Circular Quay light rail stop to enable the systems fit-out work to progress. Preparations for underground cabling works between zones 1 and 7 and street furniture installation is nearing completion.
Due to the completion of paving work, Dalle street in zone 2 was reopened. Traffic is now travelling with one northbound and one southbound lane. Upcoming works in the zone include finishing works at the intersections of George and Alfred Streets, Essex and George Streets.
Barriers were reduced at zone 3 and at the northern end of zone 7. On the other hand, paving is near completion at King Street and eastern and western side of George Street.
Teams progressed work on the Wynyard and QVB light rail stop, completing the installation of the steel structures.
The compound near Wilmot Street is reduced with barriers in the eastern traffic lane for safety reasons until end state traffic arrangements are installed.
Work on the Chinatown light rail stop in zone 10 is underway and teams have completed a traffic switch in zone 11, enabling the compound to be moved to the western side of the street. This will facilitate asphalting and kerb works.
The retaining wall on the northern side of zone 12 is complete as well as paving work on the Rawson Place light rail stop. Teams in the zone 13 are working on the last of the kerb construction.
With construction nearing completion, testing and commissioning works including installing overhead wires and underground cables to power trams, is moving ahead.
