Mirvac’s EY Centre in Sydney has taken out the top honor at the 2019 CIBSE Building Performance Awards for demonstrating brilliance in functionality and sustainability. CIBSE judges recognised its delivery of “premium-grade office space whilst achieving demanding sustainability targets”.
The 33-storey high-rise features the use of a world-first timber-and-glass closed-cavity façade (CCF) system, which was the key for its sustainability performance.
“The facade is characterised by the revolutionary use of timber,” said Jason Vieusseux, Mirvac's national construction director.
Prior to the EY Centre, a closed-cavity façade had never been used on a high-rise before.
“The best thing about the project is its sense of place; the vision was to use natural materials, in this case timber and stone, to make it more inviting.”
