The future of offices

A simple question that has struck million of minds when it comes to developing not only homes but also workplaces of the future: “Does it spark joy?”

Consistently underutilised beauty in workplaces are one of the problems why employees does not want to be at work. Employers tends to paint everything with grey and expect their employees to do their best work but it won’t work. It’s not about aesthetic but how an office make you feel.

The newest office tower located at 60 Martin Place features its ground floor lobby known as “the Public Room”. Similar to a museum “great hall”, the area can be used by anyone - even non-employees - as a personal workspace.

The best workplaces of 2019 are places where people feel inspired and motivated. This points out to PwC’s office in Sydney’s Barangaroo. Its Tower 1 office has four “client collaboration floors”, which take their design inspiration from hotel lobbies, slick shopping centres and even airline club lounges. Soft colours and natural materials such as leather, timber and concrete abound.

“The workers of 20 years’ time will want different things,” says Angela Ferguson, managing director of Futurespace. “They would have been born with technology and they won’t want to sit in an office. Going to an office from nine to five would be abhorrent to them.”
